ADVANCED ENDoSCOPY

For those suffering from more complex disorders of the digestive tract, advanced endoscopic services are available to diagnose, evaluate and treat these disorders. This treatment is offers patients diagnosed with a disorder of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, bile duct or pancreas a minimally invasive, interventional and therapeutic endoscopy procedure that is less invasive and minimizes risk.

ENDOSCOPY

Any number of unpleasant symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing, or gastrointestinal bleeding, could leave you wondering what’s causing them. Endoscopy is the insertion of a long, thin tube directly into the body to observe an internal organ or tissue in detail. Endoscopes are minimally invasive, and can also be used to carry out other tasks including imaging and minor surgery.

COLONOSCOPY

Colon cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States. Faris M. Murad, MD, a trusted Gastroenterologist physician in Libertyville and Gurnee, has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating colorectal cancer.

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

A procedure that allows the doctor to diagnose and treat problems in the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas. The doctor can examine these organs to detect any abnormalities and perform specific intervention and treatment.

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS)

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) causes many uncomfortable symptoms that can impact your quality of life and your mood. It’s a chronic condition that requires long-term management by a qualified professional.

Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) uses a specialized endoscope (tube-like camera) and sound waves to examine the walls of the esophagus, stomach and intestine, as well as structures near the GI tract in addition to performing other intervention such as draining large cysts of the pancreas.

Endoscopic Mucosal Resections (EMR)

Endoscopic mucosal resections (EMR) are complex, advanced techniques used to remove different sizes of pre-cancerous growths, tumors or polyps, preventing the need for surgery. Endoscopic resections offer effective treatment for tumors of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, colon and rectum.

Gastroesophageal REFLUX (GERD)

Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the ring of muscle between the esophagus and
stomach.

Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM)

POEM (Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy) is an endoscopic procedure used to treat swallowing disorders, most commonly for Achalasia. POEM is a relatively new procedure that uses endoscopic technology and stands for Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy. This is an in-patient procedure and can take between one to three hours to complete.

Dr. Murad took so much time with me to explain my situation, options and potential complications. It was very reassuring.
